is counting? florida has been counting vots longer than any other state again. four days after the hotly contested swing state battle, cnn is projecting president barack obama as the winner. with some provisional ballots still to be counted, it's close. and capitol hill is still divided with a few races too close to call. republicans will hold the edge in the house. democrats have a nine-seat lead in the senate. now to the recovery from the devastating superstorm sandy. hundreds of thousands of people in new york and new jersey are still struggling with power outages nearly two weeks after the storm. but today, some relief for new jersey. governor chris christie says he expects most of the state's power to be back tonight. >>> meanwhile, fema is saying more than $403 million in aid has been approved for storm victims. >> if you can imagine what it must be like to be without power for two weeks, you can easily understand the anger and frustration storm victims are feeling. people in one community in queens are demanding to know why there's been such a hold-up. here is deborah feyerick. >>
to can see defeat to patrick murphy, even though the state of florida says that he lost. election officials in one county are reportedly recounting some early votes. on friday, a florida judge denied a request to impound ballots and voting machines. the supreme court has announced it will hear challenges to a key provision on the landmark voting rights act of 1965. the case centers on a section of the law that requires many state and local governments with a history of discrimination to get federal approval before altering voting procedures. the money transfer company moneygram has agreed to establish a $100 million compensation fund as part of a settlement for a fraud allegations. the company is accused of processing transfers to agents who defrauded customers by posing as family members or offering cash prizes. the justice department said thousands of customers complained but the company failed to fire the agents. moneygram also admitted it failed to maintain an effective anti-money laundering program in violation of federal law. the openly queer and hiv- positive activist and a

campaign stops include a hampshire, florida, ohio, and colorado. >>> and president obama and republican mitt romney making final push for votes two days before the election for polls show the campaigns are running neck and neck nationally and the margins in most battleground state are in single digits. the president hit for swing states yesterday. instead he kept his promises he made four years ago. >> all have on deck for the presidential campaign. both candidates, causes, and their running mates have been crisscrossing swing states this weekend. in the meantime, california has reached an all-time high of more than 18 million registered voters. state republicans are celebrating. their numbers have reached an all-time low when it comes to percentages. we turn to the experts to see what is behind these claims. >> reporter: the percentage of californians hitting a new low. republicans make up 29.3 percent of the electorate compared with 31.4 percent in 2008. democrats make a 43.7 percent, only a slight decline. >> what it means is that more people in california are registering to claim a
bigger. florida now in the president's column by a nose. state officials say the president took 50% of the vote compared to 49% from mitt romney. the results mean the president took eight out of nine swing states, losing only north carolina. the final electoral college results now read president obama 332, romney 206. nationwide some votes are still being counted but it's clear americans chose president obama to serve a second term. voters also allowed republicans to retain control of the house. so the debate over raising taxes and cutting programs to reduce the deficit continues. with the year-end that's correct time bomb ticking away. both parties face a year end deadline when temporary tax cuts intended to rejuvenate the economy expire. president obama is asking the wealthiest americans to pay more in taxes to help cut the taxes. republicans say raising taxes on business owners would only eliminate more jobs. >> what has been the missing ingredient in congress to date has been the revenue. and to make sure that it is fairly distributed and the wealthy pay their fair share. that
